Two Weeks at Home…

It has now been two weeks that I have been working from home.  Two weeks.

I am one of the fortunate ones that have a job where I am able to do my job from my home office, so I really can’t complain.  I feel for all of those throughout the country that have lost their jobs due to the pandemic that we are currently facing.

I have been with my present employer for sixteen and a half years and have always wanted to have the option of working from home.  Not to have to face the hour-long commute both in the morning and on the way home at night seemed like a dream situation.  I guess I should be careful what I wish for.

Don’t get me wrong, it is not horrible.  But I am finding myself having to motivate myself and keep from being distracted from the stuff that I could be doing at my home.  Several times I have looked over at the PS4 that is sitting near the TV in my home office, I can almost hear it  calling to me and I have to resist the temptation.

The biggest problem that I am having is the lack of structure to my day.  You see, I am a creature of habit.  I have to have a routine, and stick to it.  Right now, I’m not sure if it is Monday, Thursday or Sunday.  Time right now has very little meaning, the minutes meld into the hours and before I know it, the day is done.  When I was going into the office, I took breaks at the same time, lunch was daily at 11:30am, I backed up files at 2:30 and headed home at 3:30PM.  Yesterday, I was on my computer in my office until 7PM, until I realized what time it was.

As of now, it looks like this will be my situation for the foreseeable future.  I will get into a routine and it will get smoother.  Hopefully the Covid-19 virus will start to dissipate and life can start to get back to normal.  Until then, this is the new norm.

Again, hopefully we can all get back to normal, everyone will go back to work and most of all, everyone is safe.  Please remember, keep practicing social distancing, wash your hands thoroughly, if you don’t have to go out… STAY HOME!!!  STAY SAFE EVERYONE.
